Explore how Pavel, a refugee facing challenges head-on, transformed from baking cakes to mastering programming with resilience and determination.
Meet Pavel, a Belarusian refugee currently working as a baker, yet always dreaming of a career in the IT world. Despite a technical background in Belarus, language barriers prevented him from continuing as a system administrator in Poland. Undeterred, Pavel took it upon himself to learn programming in Java.
Last summer, Pavel joined CodeYourPath as a mentee, where he not only improved his English but also honed his programming skills as a FrontEnd developer. It was amazing. The opportunity for live interaction gave me a lot of practical knowledge, both in programming and in English, says Pavel.
Balancing a daily job in the bakery with programming in his free time wasn’t easy for Pavel.
With experience in Java and JavaScript, Pavel prefers working in FrontEnd: “In Java, when you’re done, you get just a few lines in the console. But in FrontEnd, you can see everything you do, and I enjoy it.”
Having completed CodeYourPath’s mentorship program, Pavel is now on the lookout for his first job. You can explore Pavel’s portfolio website .
Pavel is immensely grateful for CodeYourPath’s mentorship program and for working with his mentor, Hammad Shafiq.
In his free time, Pavel enjoys riding his bike to discover new places, and his favorite writer is Terry Pratchett. The story of Pavel is a testament to the resilience and determination of refugees pursuing their dreams.
