My name is Fidan, and I’m from Azerbaijan. In early 2024, I moved to Poland to pursue a master’s degree in Computer Science and build a career in global tech companies. With over three years of experience as a Frontend Developer, I was eager to step into the international job market.
I first learned about CodeYourPath at the Perspektywy Women in Tech submit in June, and the mentorship program they offered immediately resonated with me.
Starting in January 2024, I began actively applying to various companies in Poland, including well-known names like Google and Dropbox. These interviews were my first experience with global companies and in English, which was challenging, and I wasn’t successful in securing a position. The setbacks impacted my self-confidence, and I found myself second-guessing my skills and experience.
That’s when CodeYourPath became a true turning point. Through their mentorship program, I was paired with an experienced Senior Frontend Developer. Over the course of a month, we met online to work on my skills and interview preparation. She conducted a technical interview with me, and her feedback was reassuring: my knowledge was solid. Her encouragement reminded me of my capabilities and helped me rebuild my self-confidence and self-awareness. Together, we also dove into unit testing – a key skill I wanted to strengthen for Frontend Developer roles.
During this time, my job search continued. Balancing multiple responsibilities – studying for my master’s, working remotely as a Frontend Developer for my previous employer, and attending interviews – was exhausting. Yet, each interview taught me something new and brought me closer to understanding the nuances of the hiring process in global companies. Slowly but surely, I improved with every attempt.
After many months of effort, I finally achieved my goal: I was hired as a Frontend Developer at Goldman Sachs which is one of the top investment banking company in the world. It was a milestone moment in my career and a testament to persistence and support.
I am deeply grateful to the CodeYourPath team and especially my mentor, who believed in me and empowered me during a challenging time. This program is a valuable resource, and I am confident it will inspire and support many others on their own journeys.
