Ukrainian Refugee’s Journey to Becoming a Coder

Veronika - CodeYourPath Mentee

Ukrainian refugee Veronika’s journey from war to becoming a coder in Poland. Discover her inspiring story of resilience and career transformation.

To be honest, leaving Ukraine wasn’t in my plans at all. It was my mother’s concern for our safety that convinced me to temporarily relocate. So, with all our pets in tow, we left, and what started as a short break turned into a much longer journey,

shared Veronika Donchenko, a mentee of CodeYourPath.

As with many thrust into the refugee experience, Veronika found herself at a crossroads. However, rather than succumbing to despair, she embraced the challenge, aspiring to carve a path in the IT sector. Although she initially ventured into self-learning, she encountered obstacles that required a more structured approach.

Six months ago, she joined CodeYourPath’s mentorship program, which played a pivotal role in Veronika’s journey: “CodeYourPath solidified the foundations of JavaScript basics for me. The structured assignments with deadlines significantly accelerated my learning process. Thanks to my mentor, Hammad, I improved my programming skills immensely.”

Now Veronika diligently works on her portfolio website, eagerly seeking opportunities as a Frontend Developer. Bursting with energy and aspirations for a brighter future, she emphasizes, “IT is the direction I chose, and I dream of working in a team with positive individuals determined to achieve great results. My background as a project manager equips me to contribute effectively to the IT industry.”

Outside of her IT endeavors, Veronika is passionate about giving English classes, practicing yoga, attending diverse workshops, and strolling along the Vistula embankment in Warsaw during her free time. An avid animal lover and committed vegetarian for over a decade, Veronika’s story is one of resilience, determination, and the pursuit of dreams in the face of unexpected challenges.

For Veronika, it was impossible to end the war and come back to Ukraine, but she had control over how to spend her time and change her career life for the better.

If she did it, you can also do it. Want to change your career life in the IT sector, don’t wait and join us today!
